AMS® Wireless SNAP-ON™ Application

AMS Wireless SNAP-ON™ Application

The AMS Wireless SNAP-ON™ application gives users more power to manage their wireless networks. With this application, users upload an image of their process unit for customized planning of their wireless network.

  • Plan your wireless network and compare it to best design practices
  • Troubleshoot your wireless network quickly and easily
  • Maintain your wireless network with reports of key network parameters

Drag and drop functionality enables quick and accurate plotting of devices. Once the layout is complete, the AMS Wireless SNAP-ON application checks the plan against Emerson factory-recommended best practices and visually identifies deviations from best practices to allow the user to update their network layout.

After the self-organizing network is installed, the AMS Wireless SNAP-ON application provides a comprehensive view of the wireless network by graphically displaying the parent-child communication paths and other key diagnostic and performance parameters. This helps the user identify potential trouble spots, such as pinch points or low power modules.

Ovation® Control & Information Technology

Ovation® Control & Information Technology (click to enlarge)

Ovation® extends the PlantWeb architecture by incorporating wireless technology into the control system. Wireless technology removes the barriers of traditional wired field solutions and gives unprecedented access to data that was previously out of economic or technical reach. Lower installation costs are only part of the equation.

Even more important is what you can do with the additional information. Wireless technology also empowers mobile workers to do their job more efficiently by giving them remote access to the information they need. Learn more >>

Seamless Integration of Field Networks

  • Define the 1420 wireless gateway as an Ovation I/O node
  • Autosense WirelessHART devices with native configuration and HART alerts via pass-through
  • Ovation Developer Studio configuration of 1420 and connected Device Data

Extend Reach through Plant Wireless

  • Allow mobile operator hardened tablet PCs
  • Provide Cisco security video cameras & voice devices
  • Allow OEM, people, and asset tracking RFID tags, etc.

Cisco® Wireless Control System (WCS) for Plant Networks

Business / operations applications such as wireless video, voice, mobile tools, and tracking

Cisco® Wireless Control
System (WCS)

WCS is the industry’s leading platform for wireless LAN planning, configuration, management, and mobility services. The Cisco Wireless Control System provides a powerful foundation that allows IT managers to design, control, and monitor outdoor wireless networks from a centralized location, simplifying operations and reducing total cost of ownership. Learn more >>

  • Planning and Design - Integrate RF prediction tools to optimize WLAN design for coverage or performance
  • WLAN Configuration - Configure system wide security, QOS policies, SSIDs.
  • Monitoring and Troubleshooting - Import Google Earth images, create coverage maps, network hierarchical views. Detect and report network issues, interference, and equipment alarms.
  • Secure Guest Access - Provide customers, vendors, and partners with controlled access to the wireless network. Supports local or RADIUS-based authentication, including local username and passwords creation, time limits definition and auto-expiration.
  • Device Management - Provide network device information, including link status, traffic and usage statistics for WLAN controllers, transmit power and channel assignments for Access Points, and state information (associated, authenticated etc) for Network clients ( tough PC, RFID tags etc)
  • Integrated Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) & Intrusion Detection System (IDS) - Real-time 24x7 monitoring. Detect common RF attacks, and Rogue Access Points
  • Reporting - customizable reports for network equipments, WLAN utilization, traffic statics, client statistics, and voice statistics.

Cisco® wireless LAN controllers for Plant Networks

Business / operations applications such as wireless video, voice, mobile tools, and tracking

Cisco® wireless LAN controller

Cisco wireless LAN control¬lers define an innovative Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP) architecture for large-scale wireless LANs. By automating WLAN configuration and management functions, network managers have the control, security, redundancy, and reliability needed to cost-effectively scale and manage their wireless networks as easily as they scale and manage their traditional wired networks Wireless LAN Controller works in conjunction with Cisco Aironet® lightweight access points, the Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS), and the Cisco Wireless Location Appliance to support business-critical wireless data, voice, and video applications. It provides real-time communication between lightweight access points and other wireless LAN controllers to deliver centralized security policies, wireless intrusion prevention system (IPS) capabilities, award-winning RF management, quality of service (QoS), and mobility. Cisco® Aironet 1522 Lightweight Outdoor Mesh Access Point for Plant Networks

Business / operations applications such as wireless video, voice, mobile tools, and tracking

Cisco® Aironet 1522 Lightweight Outdoor Mesh Access Point

The Cisco Aironet outdoor wireless access points support dual-band radios compliant with IEEE 802.11a and 802.11b/g standards. It also employs Cisco’s Adaptive Wireless Path Protocol (AWPP) to form a dynamic wireless mesh network between remote access points, while delivering secure, high-capacity wireless access to any Wi-Fi compliant client device. The unified network architecture provides scalable management, advanced security, seamless mobility, proven reliability, and mobility services, such as multiple Service Set Identifiers (SSIDs) and quality of service (QoS) for voice, video, and data applications. Learn more >>

  • Self-Configuring and Self-Healing Mesh - Adaptive Wireless Path Protocol (AWPP) is the intelligent wireless routing protocol used to form a wireless mesh network between nodes. . AWPP enables a remote access point to dynamically optimize the best route to the connected network within the mesh, providing resiliency to interference and helping ensure high network capacity. Deployment and management costs are reduced through support of zero-configuration deployments and through the ability of the access points to self-heal in response to interference or outages.
  • Zero-Touch Configuration - Using the Cisco Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP) features, the mesh access point can discover its LWAPP controller and automatically download the correct configuration and software for its role in the wireless mesh network.
  • Robust Embedded Security - A core component of the Cisco Unified Wireless Solution is the use of X.509 certificates and AES encryption for LWAPP transactions. This X.509 and AES encryption is embedded into the wireless mesh solution with LWAPP transactions and by AES encrypting all traffic between mesh nodes. For mutual authentication, Extensible Authentication Protocol / Pre-Shared Key (EAP / PSK) are now supported between the mesh access point nodes.
  • Seamless Mobility - The same seamless mobility features delivered through the Cisco Unified Wireless Solution are delivered in the Cisco Outdoor Wireless Networking solution. Users can seamlessly roam in outdoor environments between the various Cisco mesh access points at different locations. If there is a Cisco indoor wireless network infrastructure, the user can also roam between the indoor and outdoor environment.
