Altamira Brooks Why does Altamira 'love' Brooks? Three reasons: Delivery, quality, and service. If this sounds trite, consider the fact that Altamira has been a loyal Brooks customer for over twenty years, and these three qualities become very meaningful. The backbone behind the relationship is Brooks' commitment to service support, to assure that every Altamira product shipped works perfectly right out of the box.
The Story Brook March has worked for Altamira for the past six years, but the history with Brooks goes back more than twenty. Altamira prefers Brooks' mass flow meters and mass flow controllers for their standard and custom catalyst instruments because, simply:
- Brooks delivers on time
- Brooks products work reliably right out of the box
- Brooks provides exceptional support
Given that Altamira's reputation depends on all the instrument devices working flawlessly, Brook sees no reason to experiment with any other brand.
Altamira provides a standard line of instruments, called their AMI family of catalyst characterization instruments, and all of them incorporate several Brooks Series 5850e and/or 5850S (Smart) analog mass flow controllers. In addition, unless a customer specifies otherwise, Altamira uses Brooks mass flow controllers in its custom instruments as well.
But what's the story behind the story? It's Brooks' secret weapon: their service team. Brook knows he can call Rich Fravel, Brooks Regional Manager, any time and get action. Whether it's consultation on a new custom application, a question about delivery, or a service/calibration issue, Rich just gets the job done. As an example, Altamira needed to install three mass flow controllers in instruments to ship on a Monday, but only discovered that they needed to be recalibrated the previous Friday. Rich drove out to Altamira, picked them up, called in a service tech to work on them over the weekend, and returned them to Altamira on Monday, in time for them to install the meters and deliver to their customer.
As for new technology, Altamira has adopted the Brooks QUANTIM Coriolis mass flow meter/mass flow controller to replace an older, outdated HPLC pump system for metering fluids from a liquid supply vessel. As Anthony Mitri, one of Altamira's project engineers explains it, QUANTIM delivers a number of advantages. First, it provides feedback to verify that the flow is correct according to the setpoint, something the HPLC pump could not do; and it also provides a more precise flow rate than the pump. Second, QUANTIM is much smaller, so four or five devices can fit in the space previously occupied by a single pump. And finally, using QUANTIM produces a much neater, more professional assembly than the HPLC pump.
All in all, one could say that Brooks has been the catalyst in Altamira's success.
