The Story
Arbin has been specifying Brooks mass flow controllers for over five years. The relationship began as a simple sales call by Brooks' representative Tom Powers. Peter Brown has personally dealt with Tom for the past two years, and respects his initiative and problem-solving skills.
Initially, two big factors drove the decision to choose Brooks for Arbin's flow challenges:
- Brooks is a global brand, a product division of Emerson Process Management, one of the most respected brands in the world. Since Arbin ships their final products all over the world, they wanted a supplier that could provide customer service all over the world as well. Brooks has regional offices all across the globe that make it simple for Arbin's customers to find the expert service they need on any meter or controller from Brooks. Also, the fact that Brooks is a part of Emerson elevates the value of Arbin's product offering to their customers.
- Quality and reliability: "Out of the box performance." Arbin appreciates the fact that when Brooks ships 10 MFCs, all 10 work according to the specified design and calibration. There's nothing more gratifying for Arbin than working with a component supplier who understands the importance of reliable quality.
But there's more to this story. When Peter encounters a difficult customer challenge, he relies on Tom's expertise – and his engineering connections at Brooks – to recommend the right Brooks flow meter to solve the problem. The company frequently engages Tom and the Brooks specialists in helping to solve new and unusual flow problems. As an example, Arbin recently fielded an inquiry from a customer who needed a fuel cell test stand to run a mixed gas. This was a difficult challenge since mass flow controllers are typically specified for 100% pure gas. Tom worked with the Brooks research and development team to find the solution to this complicated challenge, allowing Arbin to successfully compete for this job.
