Hatfield, Pennsylvania (November 13, 2007) — Brooks has introduced new features on its SLA series mass flow meters and controllers. SLA stands for Smart Link Advantage, Brooks’ premiere smart digital thermal mass flow platform. These products link to advanced service tools and offer the legacy S-Series RS-485 protocol and analog I/O. SLA also offers the advantage of digital bus protocols and advanced features.

Some of the new features available within the SLA portfolio are:

Coplanar Valve Option
With the Brooks new coplanar valve, the plunger and orifice are machined perfectly to achieve the proper preload. This allows every valve to be assembled the same way which greatly improves device-to-device repeatability and extends MFC turndown.

The coplanar valve offers several additional technical advantages. For instance, it provides three times the control range of typical control valves, resulting in larger turndown. The valve also uses less opening voltage and exhibits less opening voltage variation for better device-to-device repeatability. Finally, because there are fewer orifice/restrictor combinations, it reduces spares inventory.

Enhanced Temperature Stability
With the enhanced temperature stability option, Brooks characterizes every device over a range of temperatures. The data is then programmed into the device and the software compensates for any drift due to temperature. The result is a dramatically improved temperature stability specification. This feature, offered exclusively on the SLA Series, is critical for ensuring process stability in environments with variable temperatures.

Zero Drift Diagnostic
Brooks’ products have long been revered for their resistance to zero drift over long periods of time. Now Brooks is the first MFC supplier to prove the stability of its devices with the introduction of the exclusive zero drift diagnostic option. This option detects and alerts the user when the flow sensor zero-drifts by more than user specified limits. This unique feature monitors the flow signal during no-flow conditions and then utilizes the device alarms to notify the user when an out of limits condition has been detected. This diagnostic gives the user a higher level of confidence that the process has not shifted.

The Brooks family of Brooks SLA thermal mass flow meters, flow controllers and pressure controllers includes:
  • SLA5800 Series standard elastomer sealed devices
  • SLAMf Series IP65 / NEMA4X weatherproof devices
  • SLA7000 Series 1.125” compact metal sealed and Ultra-High Purity devices
  • SLA6000 Series 1.5” metal sealed and UHP devices
