History
Daniel Measurement
and Control, Inc. began about 75 years ago when Paul Daniel invented a
device that still reigns at gas pipeline locations around the world.
Through his innovation, he was granted a patent on the Daniel Senior®
Orifice Fitting. The design’s basic concept endures today, representing
the pipeline industry’s leading dual-chamber orifice fitting.
The Daniel Orifice Fitting Company opened in Los Angeles and began
making other natural gas flow measurement products. Operations expanded
in 1940 to include a small plant in Houston, which later became company
headquarters. In 1966, the company changed its name to Daniel
Industries, Inc.
At the same time that Daniel was building its leadership position in
natural gas flow measurement, what became known as Brooks Instrument was
being established as the premier liquid flow measurement products
company. The product technology offering grew to include the BiRotor®
positive displacement meter, turbine meter, control valves, Compact Prover™ and electronic presets. In 1970, Emerson Electric Co. acquired
the liquid product manufacturing facilities and technology known as the
Brooks Instrument petroleum division.
During the 1970s and early 1980s, the oil and gas industry experienced a
dramatic boom. This period brought tremendous growth for Daniel and led
to expansion of its global business. Daniel continued to develop its
product offering in gas turbine meters, gas chromatographs, valves and
other products through technology development and key acquisitions.
In 1977, Daniel Industries, Inc. was listed on the New York Stock
Exchange.
Emerson Electric Co. acquired Daniel Industries, Inc. in 1999. Daniel
emerged as a stronger company, Daniel Measurement and Control. Further,
the Micro Motion® Coriolis technology and Fisher® Flow Computers were
added to the Daniel product offering. These advances established Daniel
as the premier global custody transfer flow measurement company.
Daniel Measurement and Control, Inc. is one of the Emerson Process
Management divisions, serving customers from more than 600 global
locations.
