Overview

 

This course is designed for process control engineers and programmers who need to develop Visual Basic applications that will manipulate process control data via an OPC server connection.

This 3 day course is for process control engineers that need to retrieve or change process data through an OPC (OLE for Process Control) server. The course will discuss the underlying basics of using COM and OPC as well as address the techniques that are necessary for the student to write a Visual Basic client application that will access an OPC compliant server for the data reads and writes.

Prerequisites

Preferably students should have had programming experience using Microsoft Visual Basic version 4.0 or later. Although a short review of the basics of Visual Basic will be presented, Visual Basic will not be taught in this class.

Each day will be divided into theoretical and practical parts. The number of participants will be limited to two people per console to ensure sufficient practical work for all concerned.
