New Eccentric
Rotary Plug Valve for General Service MARSHALLTOWN, IOWA, March 2001 . . . . . Fisher Controls International LLC introduces the BV500, the newest member of the Fisher ēplug™ rotary control valve family. The BV500 is designed to complement the CV500 and V500 ēplug valves which Fisher has successfully sold for high-end, severe service applications for many years. The BV500 is a lower cost version of this ēplug series designed primarily for a wide range of general service applications in the chemical, hydrocarbon, pulp & paper, and power industries. The BV500 utilizes the same line-of-sight, high recovery, low friction characteristics as the rest of the ēplug family. It features high flow capacity with an inherent flow characteristic that is approximately linear. The aerodynamically contoured plug eliminates flow-induced torque reversals while the camming action of the plug design reduces friction. The centerline of the plug is offset from the valve shaft, causing the plug to follow an eccentric path as it rotates. Thus, the plug has no contact with its seat until within a few degrees of shutoff. As the plug contacts or "cams" into the seat, the valve achieves shutoff. Characteristics of this eccentric design are minimal seat wear due to the cam action of the plug, and low operating torques due both to the aerodynamic shape of the plug and its minimum contact with the valve seat. Low torque allows the use of smaller actuators for greater economy. The BV500 features the Type 1052 spring-and-diaphragm actuator that offers lower air supply capability, important for some older facilities. In addition, the Type 1052 can be equipped with the highly popular FIELDVUEÒ Digital Valve Controller. A splined and clamped connection between the actuator lever and valve shaft eliminates the possibility of lost motion. In addition, high strength shafts resist torsion forces in high-pressure conditions to prevent shaft wind-up, and the aerodynamically efficient BV500 plug eliminates flow-induced torque reversals. These features not only give smooth operation and minimize actuator requirements, but they help ensure accurate plug positioning in order to achieve accurate throttling control of liquids and gasses over a wide range of industrial applications. When equipped with the industry’s most widely applied digital valve instrument, the FIELDVUEÒ Digital Valve Controller, dynamic flow testing shows control performance characteristics of better than 0.5% accuracy under full flow. A stepped seat design provides a staged pressure drop for liquid flow at low valve openings. This reduces or eliminates the potential for noise, vibration, cavitation, and seat damage. Thanks to the optional, unique attenuator disc, which fits within the body outlet, valve noise can be reduced by as much as 10 dBA. Also available are optional trim and bolting materials for sour fluids and gases to meet the recommendations of NACE standard MR0175. The ENVIRO-SEALÒ shaft packing option routinely meets strict emission requirements and is field proven to give extended service life. The BV500 is available in ANSI 150 and 300 pressure classes in size ranges from 1" to 6," and can handle temperatures up to 800 deg F depending upon seal design. The 1052 actuator has powder coat paint protection and NCF fasteners for corrosion resistance.
