Proven, revolutionary PlantWeb® field-based architecture and solutions lead charge

AUSTIN, TX (May 10, 2000) – For the seventh consecutive year, Emerson Process Management has led the list of suppliers recognized by CONTROL Magazine’s "2000 Readers’ Choice Awards" for the best instrumentation and control technologies, receiving top ratings for both products and services. It also topped the magazine’s annual listing of the top 50 suppliers of process instrumentation and controls.

"Readers’ Choice Awards’ are a high form of praise and recognition because the results are based on a sincere and unbiased voting process," said Paul Studebaker, editor in chief, CONTROL Magazine. "The awards, which celebrate product quality and superior service, demonstrate commitment to the process automation end user."

"The across-the-board user recognition is especially important because all of these products and services integrate into powerful new solutions delivered by Emerson Process Management's proven, revolutionary PlantWeb field-based architecture," explained John Berra, senior vice president and process group business leader for Emerson Process Management parent Emerson.

Emerson Process Management commanded the position of overall best supplier in the Readers' Choice Awards by winning first place in 18 categories and by placing in the top three in 75 percent of the categories where Emerson Process Management offers products.

The Emerson Process Management companies captured 66 percent of the control valve category and maintained their leadership in both the pressure and temperature transmitter markets with 62 percent and 52 percent, respectively. Micro Motion had the highest mark of any supplier in any category in the survey with a 71 percent rating for flow meters. Rounding out the superior field device results, Rosemount was first in Magnetic Flow Meters, Brooks first in Positive Displacement meters and Variable Area Meters, Daniel was number one in Turbine Meters, and Rosemount was second in Vortex Meters.

Asset Management Solutions (AMS) software topped its category with a score equal to the next two suppliers combined. Emerson Process Management also ranked as one of the top three suppliers of integrated/hybrid control systems and distributed control/process automation.

"It's products like our intelligent field devices, AMS software, and DeltaV system that enable PlantWeb field-based architecture to deliver the revolutionary results our customers are seeing," said Emerson Process Management marketing vice-president Jane Lansing. "Our strong capabilities across so many product categories make PlantWeb the comprehensive, integrated solution it is today."

Many of the Emerson Process Management products recognized in the Readers’ Choice survey can be part of PlantWeb field-based architecture, which makes full use of FOUNDATION fieldbus technology. PlantWeb process automation solutions combine intelligent field devices, DeltaV automation systems, and integrated Asset Management Solutions (AMS) software to deliver proven capabilities for breakthrough improvements in process and business results – including guaranteed installed-cost savings. PlantWeb automation solutions are integrated by Emerson Performance Solutions, the engineering, consulting, maintenance, and professional services arm of Emerson.

The Emerson Process Management companies also received high marks for exceptional customer service, capturing a near-perfect score and garnering 28 places on the service check list. Second place went to ABB with 14 mentions, and third position to Allen Bradley/Rockwell Automation with 12.

CONTROL‘s "Readers’ Choice Awards" are based on a survey of end-users in the manufacturing sector. Readers rate the products and services of process control suppliers in more than 60 categories based on cost versus benefit, ease of use, performance, reliability, service life, and application.

By also leading the CONTROL Top 50 List of Suppliers, Emerson Process Management beat out ABB, Invensys Intelligent Automation, Honeywell Industrial Automation & Control, and Siemens Energy & Automation – all of which made up the top five.
