Emerson launches AMS™ Suite: Asset Portal™ -- Industry's first Web solution that unifies plant asset data

Secure, integrated view of predictive maintenance and equipment performance information on critical plant assets increases availability and performance

AUSTIN, TEXAS (November 18, 2003) -- Responding to process manufacturers' need to increase plant productivity, uptime and efficiency, Emerson Process Management has announced the addition of AMS™ Suite: Asset Portal™ to its PlantWeb® digital plant architecture. A secure web-based application that provides a single view into predictive diagnostics from critical plant assets, AMS Suite: Asset Portal is a vital decision-support tool.

Wil Chin, research director of ARC Advisory Group, a leader in providing strategic planning and technology assessment services stated, "Emerson's AMS Suite: Asset Portal should be welcomed by manufacturers managing a wide range of assets. It is the first real Web solution that centralizes the information in a common database to allow management of Emerson and third-party assets from a common view, which is exactly what manufacturers are demanding."

AMS Asset Portal aggregates and unifies information on the health and performance of mechanical, electrical and process equipment, field instruments and valves; this enables increased employee effectiveness and response time. It improves the productivity of operations, maintenance and reliability personnel in day-to-day asset management; it also serves management in longer range performance monitoring, historical trend analysis, and more. At both a tactical and strategic level, AMS Asset Portal harnesses asset diagnostics to enable better decisions.

The powerful dashboards, reports, and summaries of AMS Asset Portal enable users to review the overall condition of their assets, view prioritized active alerts, analyze details such as trends in motor faults, compare device configurations, or review compressor performance across multiple plants. By combining information from diverse sources, AMS Asset Portal enables users to identify conditions such as the efficiency decline in a compressor and then to pinpoint whether the cause is a mechanical condition, the need for a water wash, or an instrument or valve problem. Links to other web sites, documentation systems, work procedures, and other information related to an asset add to the power of AMS Asset Portal.

Built using the latest technologies, including web services and XML, AMS Asset Portal can span the production assets in a single plant or across an entire enterprise. All applications in Emerson's AMS Suite, a family of software for predictive maintenance, performance monitoring, and economic optimization, are fully integrated with AMS Asset Portal. Additionally, the use of open standards such as XML enables any manufacturer of diagnostics and predictive maintenance applications to readily integrate their information into the AMS Asset Portal. End-users benefit by having simple yet secure web access to all of their equipment diagnostics through AMS Asset Portal.

"By adding AMS Suite: Asset Portal to their plant, users are empowered not only to integrate information, but to integrate their organizations that support the plant assets," said Craig Llewellyn, president of Emerson's Asset Optimization division. "Operators, maintenance & reliability engineers, equipment specialists, and plant managers now have a common view of information and a common tool for decision-making. AMS Suite: Asset Portal combines the efficiency of online asset information, the convenience of the web, and the power of predictive diagnostics, bringing a new level of productivity to any plant."
