Emerson receives agreement from BASF-YPC for automation of new integrated petrochemical site in China

Emerson named main automation vendor, will provide PlantWeb® architecture and automation services to 10 plants

AUSTIN, TEXAS (November 18, 2003) - Emerson Process Management, an Emerson business (NYSE: EMR), has been awarded an umbrella agreement for the automation of an integrated petrochemical site being constructed by BASF-YPC Company Ltd. in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, in east-central China.

A 50-50 joint venture between BASF and SINOPEC, the Nanjing complex will consist of a 600,000-ton per year steam-cracker and nine downstream plants. The project is expected to achieve mechanical completion by the end of 2004 and will be put into commercial operation in early 2005.

As main automation vendor, Emerson will work with Integrated Management Team (IMT), i.e. the BASF-YPC Company Ltd. project organization, and a number of well known EPC contractors for the execution of this project. The IMT, based in Nanjing, includes personnel from BASF, SINOPEC/YPC and Fluor Daniel.

Emerson will provide system integration, engineering, and project management services for automation throughout the complex. Emerson will also provide training and maintenance services and the integration of emergency shutdown systems at the complex.

Emerson's PlantWeb digital plant architecture includes the latest in state-of-the-art systems, software, and intelligent field devices, and will deliver real-time automation and performance information to personnel running the chemical plants. The Emerson system being installed at the complex provides both process control and asset optimization to help ensure that chemical plants work to their full potential on into the future.
