DP flow
has the largest installed base of any process flow technology. DP meters continue to be
purchased more than twice as often as the next largest flow measurement technology, and
industry experts expect this trend to continue over the next five years.
While newer
flow measurement technologies have emerged which have strengths in certain applications,
the DP flowmeter remains a favorite for process flow applications for a number of reasons.
Excellent repeatability
Proven reliability and stability with proper installation and application
Direct process mounting
Devices easy to calibrate and troubleshoot
Worldwide industry standard (theoretical and empirical data readily available)
Installed cost largely independent of line size
One instrument provides a measurement solution for a variety of applications
DP flow remains so popular industry experts predict worldwide purchases of DP
flowmeters will exceed half a billion dollars over the next five years.
Technology
has continued to improve the DP flowmeter over the years. The industry first moved from
pneumatic to solid state analog electronic instrumentation. Next, improvements in drift
over a range of process temperature and pressure conditions were implemented. The advent
of microprocessor-based smart transmitters and continuous improvements in electronic
sensing technologies furthered DP meter improvements.
Now
Multivariable technology combined with the process flow Engineered Measurement Solution
available in the Model 3095MV improve further on this worldwide standard of flow
measurement.
By providing dynamic calculation
of discharge coefficient, gas expansion factor, thermal expansion effects, density, and
viscosity as functions of process flow rate, line pressure, and temperature, the Model
3095MV produces and accurate flow measurement over a broader range of applications. Usable
flow rangeabilities are further expanded, and performance for given flow rates is
improved. A mass signal is provided AND the critical variables of process temperature and
pressure are available for monitoring or control purposes without additional penetrations
into the process.
