Hot Backup^® Increases Process Reliability by Providing Sensor Redundancy

By automatically switching to the backup sensor if the primary sensor fails, the Hot Backup® feature can reduce the risk of losing important temperature measurement by 80%.

When configured using the Hot Backup® feature, the Model 3144P and 3244MV with FOUNDATION fieldbus will:

Accept two temperature inputs from a dual element sensor or two independent sensors - RTDs, thermocouples, or a mix
Output the temperature from the primary element as the process variable
Monitor the temperature from the secondary element using the Hot Backup® feature
Provide uninterrupted transfer from the primary element to the secondary element upon failure of the primary - the mA output is not affected
Alert the user that the Hot Backup® feature is active. This alert is displayed on the transmitter LCD, or is available via HART with AMS or Model 275 HART Communicator.

What is Hot Backup?

The Hot Backup feature in a Control & Safety loop protects your investment by automatically switching to the backup sensor if the primary sensor fails. The 3144P can be configured in the field with a HART® communicator or AMS Software to utilize the Hot Backup feature.

The Hot Backup capability of the Model 3144P can reduce the risk of a temperature point failure by up to 80% if a primary sensor failure occurs.
