Instrument Toolkit -- DP Flow Module
Software for sizing and
selecting instrumentation for flow, level, pressure, and temperature applications.
About the Differential Pressure (DP)
Flow Module
The Differential Pressure (DP) Flow Module of Instrument
Toolkit allows the selection of flowmeters which utilize differential pressure to
determine flow rate. DP flow measurements consist of both a primary element (restriction
in pipe designed to produce a differential pressure) and a secondary element (device used
to measure differential pressure). This module can be used to specify both primary and
secondary elements.
The DP Flow Module will calculate any one of: differential
pressure, flow rate or primary element size given the other two. You will be asked to
enter the process operating conditions and the Toolkit will extract physical properties
needed for DP calculations from databases within the program.
Several types of primary elements including integral
orifice assemblies, Annubar averaging pitot tubes, orifice plates and others are supported
by the DP Flow Module. Orifice plate calculations may be performed for several pressure
tap locations per any of several widely-recognized standards such as ASME, ISO or AGA. A
variety of Rosemount differential pressure flow transmitters are also supported. By
inputting just one set of process data, both the primary and secondary element needed for
a flow measurement may be specified. Integrated DP flowmeters, which already include both
the primary and secondary elements, may also be specified in this module.
During the selection process, checks are
automatically performed to ensure that the specified flowmeter pressure and temperature
ratings meet the requirements of the measurement. Exclusionary logic within the program
also prevents incompatible flowmeter components from being specified together.
Three output reports are available. Differential pressure
flow calculation sheets, specification sheets, and Configuration Data Sheets may be printed for a given flowmeter.
This functionality resides within the powerful project
management environment of the Instrument Toolkit. This program allows easy specification
of all types of measurement instrumentation needed for an entire plant.
The DP Flow Module uses exclusionary logic
to limit the selection of transmitter and Primary Element models which meet the
application requirements. The program will not allow you to select transmitter ranges
which do not meet the application span; and based on the pressure values entered, will
select the proper Primary Element process connection ratings.
Note: It is important to consider the design pressures
when selecting process connection types and model numbers. The software will make
selections based on the highest pressures entered.
