Consistency
and reliability are integral parts of any process. However, to effectively obtain
this, there must be some sort standard to measure against. The Emerson EnTech
specifications and guidelines are intended to act as a gauging tool by
which performance can be measured, setting standards at what we believe to be
reasonable, obtainable levels. These publications are available in

Consistency
Loop Dynamic Specification v1.0
The consistency control loop is one of the most important loops
in the pulp and paper mill as it determines the mass flow of fiber on which everything
else depends. Applications range from the pulp mill through to the final point
of dilution ahead of the paper machine. Consistency loop variability of 1% of
mean is achievable, 0.5% is good, below 0.5% is excellent. This specification
defines consistency control loop design and tuning criteria needed to minimize
process variability. It is based on over a decade of experience. Consistency

Control
Valve Dynamic Specification v3.0
This
specification is aimed at providing a guide for control valve dynamic behaviour
that is suitable for the highly competitive process industry environment. It is
intended as a guide for end users to gauge control valve performance in-situ and
also as a guide for both control valve purchase and sizing. While by no means
'the-last-word' in competitive control valve performance, the specification is
intended to fill a void in an industry which has essentially no guidelines in
this critically important area. Regarding the
Control Valve Specification: We would like
to applaud all of those who have adopted the EnTech Control Valve Specification
as a guideline when ordering valves and for demanding supplier compliance. However
there can be too much of a good thing, and care must be taken to ensure that these
guidelines are applied properly. The specification applies to control
valves and is designed to ensure that these valves respond to requested
changes to accomplish reasonable regulation of the process. Under
no circumstances does the specification apply to on/off valves and should never
be used for this purpose. SUMMARY:

Competency in Process Control
- Industry Guidelines v1.0 This
is a summary of a general set of recommendations aimed at helping pulp and paper
mills manage process and product variability. It suggests a minimum set of standards
for human awareness, knowledge and skills in the various aspects of the process
control engineering discipline that is needed at each stage of a pulp and paper
mill design, start-up and on-going operation/optimization. Competency

Digital Measurement Dynamics
- Industry Guidelines This
document is aimed at providing a design guide for sensor, transmitter and digital
signal transmission equipment in order to ensure that the designs are capable
of meeting the needs of process control, trouble shooting and data acquisition,
especially at a time where there are increasingly urgent needs in the pulp and
paper industry for greater product uniformity and operating efficiency. Digital
