Black
Malt Extraction Project This was a continuous evaporation process
which concentrated wort for black malt beer into a liquor for distribution to
other breweries. This saved shipping costs and the liquor was diluted into a wort
at each destination brewery. The existing controls were modified to accommodate
the new grain with process changes throughout the brewhouse. There was sophisticated
evaporator temperature control and centrifuge control. Also included batch scheduling
modifications to allow integration of the new wort production into the existing
brewhouse production schedule. The new installation had to be integrated while
the existing brewhouse was in production. The PLC 5 equipment was used
during the PLC programming phase at Emerson Process Management. The Factory Link
GUI programming was done on NT computers at Emerson Process Management. These
components were set up to communicate for simulation before shipping to the site. Emerson
Process Management specified the Process Operation before detailed programming,
as well as the description of Operation documents. Emerson Process Management
also interfaced to a new Brewhouse scheduling software that was being implemented
by another company in parallel. The project was very successful with product
quality exceeding specifications and the project being completed ahead of schedule. The
client was well pleased with the outcome. Back to Success Stories |
