Legacy automation
systems can no longer provide the capabilities needed to compete
in today’s global economy.
Getting
started on the path to a smart digital plant is easy.
Emerson’s
global team of specialists provide a portfolio of migration
services and solutions to address the full lifecycle of plant
automation.
Migration
services are tailored to deliver specific benefits in a transition
to Emerson technologies. Proven study methodologies will identify
unrealized benefits, provide economic justification, and lay out a
system modernization plan that meets installation requirements.
Minimizing
risk is a primary objective and an extensive track record of
successful migration projects are a testament to the expertise and
experience of Emerson’s dedicated team of industry, process,
and system migration experts.
Migration
project execution is managed by qualified professionals using
global standards. Planning, communication, and teamwork are the keys to
success and these skills are integral to Emerson culture.
Getting
Started
Modernization
studies are an excellent first step toward improved
plant performance. Studies are designed to identify improvement
opportunities aligned with the plant’s business drivers and
automation objectives. Potential risk factors are also
identified so plans can be made for a smooth transition.
A
modernization study and plan will examine in detail all the key
aspects of automation at the plant with the result being a
detailed report outlining a transition path to a smart digital
architecture. The areas for study include:
- Business
objectives
- Automation
infrastructure
- Risk
mitigation
- Benefit
opportunities and economic justification

There are a
variety of migration types and Emerson provides services
and solutions to satisfy specific needs, for example:
·
Console
upgrades/Integrated Operator Interfaces
·
Controller
upgrades
·
I/O Bus
interfaces
·
Historian
consolidation
·
Advanced
controls additions

For large
and complex migration projects Front End Engineering Design (FEED) will ensure a smooth, safe, efficient
transition and faster time to increased profitability
|
| · |
Industry
process experts are on the team to ensure that investments
in highly valuable intellectual property are converted so
that the functionality in the new system is equivalent or
better than it was before

Complex
installations and hot cutovers are planned down to the
last detail to minimize delays and shutdown time. |

DeltaV
Connect™
If
the plant requires a superior operator interface with
leading edge capabilities to help the operator make fast
and informed decisions, then a DeltaV Connect solution
will allow an integrated console to operate both a DeltaV™ and
legacy system. This
solution makes sense if a phased migration is taking place
or existing consoles are obsolete and causing maintenance
challenges. Emerson
provides services to fully implement DeltaV Connect with
seamless integration and minimal operator disruption.
FlexConnect™
Field wiring typically has a
longer lifespan than other automation components, so
rewiring is often not necessary when migrating to a new
system. A
FlexConnect solution avoids the need to run new field
wires or re-terminate.
FlexConnect solutions integrate with legacy
termination panels and are cabled directly to new DeltaV
controllers.
PLC
Migration
Emerson, along with
alliance partner Mynah technologies, provides elegant and flexible
solutions to migrate many different PLC subsystems to DeltaV
controllers. Integration
can be done at the plant floor network via Modbus TCP/IP or
Ethernet I/P or directly connect to the I/O bus with a DeltaV PLC
I/O interface module. Some
I/O subsystems can connect via standard DeltaV Profibus DP or
DeviceNet cards. There
are several options for moving control strategies to the DeltaV
system and Emerson’s migration consultants are ready to help you
design the best path forward.
