DIGITAL BLENDING OF GASOLINE AND OTHER REFINERY PRODUCTS
Emerson
Process Management can provide a number of digital blending solutions within a
petroleum refinery. Typically blending is the final step in the production of
a number of products including:
- Gasoline
- Diesel
- Kerosine/Jet
- Lube
oils
- Asphalt
In addition, incoming crudes are often
blended to provide a more consistent feedstock to the refinery. Accurate
blending is crucial to minimize giveaway costs and the need to rework off-spec
product. When the products do not meet spec, the refiner must tie up tankage and
inventory to patch the blend and frequently faces penalties for delaying transportation.
Alternatively, the refinery may have to pay penalties or receive reduced
prices on the off-spec products. We focus on reducing product variability, which
in turn allows refiners to operate closer to spec (reduce giveaway) without violating
specs or constraints. When blend optimization is included in the solution, we
can ensure that the blender is optimized in the short, intermediate, and long
terms and reduce inventory problems. We provide virtually everything required

only thing we don't supply directly is process analyzers for some of the properties
of interest. These we provide as an engineered buyout from reliable companies
that specialize in this type of equipment. We can integrate with virtually any
products in the market to provide the right solution for the customer. Emerson
also offers terminal automation and tank farm & off-site solutions in the
area of movements and storage. As new governmental regulations are imposed
on refiners, blending is becoming ever more challenging. We can provide a solution
that is custom tailored for any refinery and probably save them $0.10 to $0.20
per barrel. Our PlantWeb solution lends itself to sustainable performance. And
it is scalable in terms of price and performance as well as size. We can offer
a competitive solution in a low value blending application like asphalt or a more
