Brief Description of Duties / Minimum Requirements: This position is located in Austin, Texas and relocation assistance is available. The Director, Global Leadership Development and Training must be able and willing to travel globally, expected to be 40%.

  • Direct experience in creating / managing Leadership Development Programs and other training programs.
  • Full understanding of the Human Resources function in order to ensure coordination of efforts is realized.
  • Technically competent in training and development with knowledge of the latest technology available.
  • Business acumen.
  • Integrity and ethically minded.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and oral), and presentation skills.
  • Problem solver with a logical thought process.
  • 12 years experience, minimum of 5 years in training and development, and 3 years in management.
  • 4 year university degree.
  • Able and willing to travel globally – travel expected to be 40%

Strategic Imperatives

  • The purpose of this position is to have a positive effect on the retention of PSS employees globally.
  • Create and implement a PSS leadership development program which focuses on developing the competencies and attributes of exceptional leadership.
  • Prepare and offer a "standard template" New Hire Induction for all PSS locations around the world.
  • Develop a "Fast Track Program" which shortens the time span needed for an Engineer to become fully effective in Project Management.
  • Take an active role in the creation of other projects which have a positive impact on the future direction of PSS.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

Leadership Development Program

  • Create a Leadership Development Program which focuses on the attributes of exceptional leaders. The main purpose of this program will be to help individual leaders improve their competencies and effectiveness.
  • During this Program, provide the tools, coaching, and hands-on situations which enhance the learning experience.
  • Ensure that this program is complementary to the other programs offered by Emerson and the World Areas.
  • Engage and involve PSS Officers and other leaders in PSS in the program. They must be visible and interact with the participants.
  • Involve an external coach in the Program (coach may vary by location).
  • Ensure the Program is a "high quality" experience, with learning taking place over time for the maximum effectiveness.
  • Offer this Program in all world areas.
  • Develop a methodology for who will participate in the Program, and track the participation.
  • Take an active role in facilitating the Program.
  • Reward and recognize the participants who "graduate".

New Hire Induction

  • Gather, consolidate and update the New Hire Induction presentations from various locations, and use the best materials to create a global New Hire Induction program. The overall purpose of this Induction program should be to help the new hire become acclimatized more quickly.
  • Use on-line applications as well as any other technology solutions available.
  • Lead the New Hire Induction Team who will help to develop the program by providing ideas and information.
  • Organize the roll-out of the New Hire Induction program world-wide. Provide the program to the HR Managers and Directors in all PSS locations.
  • Encourage the local management staff around the world to add site-specific information by giving guidelines and examples.
  • Use the "Emerson Process Management" template, Emerson videos, and other Emerson supporting documents to ensure that the brand name is prominent.
  • Provide supporting documents (e.g. New Hire Checklist, Supervisor Checklist, etc.) that enhance the new hires' experience when joining the company.
  • Monitor the feedback and effectiveness of the program.
  • Encourage the involvement of the location's leadership team.
  • Update the program materials as necessary (minimum - annually).

Fast Track Program

  • Create a "track" that people follow to get the needed experiences (in the right order) and places them in situations where they learn from top Engineers, maximizing the transfer of knowledge.
  • Use existing classes as well as coordinating the development of new classes if needed.
  • Lead the Fast Track Program Team who will help to develop the program.
  • Solicit ideas and information from Project Managers in order to ensure the program provides the necessary learning.
  • Develop criteria for who will be selected into the program, and at what point in the track they will be inducted.
  • Work with the Officers to ensure they are actively involved in the recruitment and selection of participants.
  • Monitor the participants to ensure they stay on track in the program. Keep in touch with their supervisors to ensure participants are involved and learning.
  • Gain commitment from Officers for funding of the participants.
  • Keep supervisor aware of any roadblocks being encountered.
  • Gather feedback on the program and make modifications / updates as necessary.
