CBA300-Series Valve Actuators

Introduction

Bettis®’ CBA 300-Series pneumatic actuators combine the strengths of the new G-Series actuators while incorporating several new design economies for efficient and cost effective valve automation. The CBA 300-Series have enhanced water ingress and corrosion protection, are compact, lightweight and ideally suited for automating ball, butterfly and non-lubricated plug valves, or any quarter- turn (90 degree) rotating mechanism.

Double-acting CBA 300-Series actuators, requiring pressure to rotate in either direction, are available with guaranteed minimum torque outputs from 7,388 to 22,055 lb-in (835 to 2,492 Nm).

The CBA-300 Series spring-return models require pressure in only one direction of travel and are suitable for fail clockwise or counterclockwise applications without modification. These models produce guaranteed spring ending torques from 2,532 to 10,457 lb-in (286 to 1,182 Nm).

Standard construction CBA-300 Series actuators are designed for operating temperatures of -20°F to +200°F (-30°C to +95°C). High temperature trim allows continuous operation from 0°F to +350°F (-18°C to +177°C). Additionally, low temperature trim allows operation from -40°F to +180°F (-40°C to +82°C). Consult factory when temperature requirements exceed these limits. Operating pressures for the CBA 300-Series range from 40 up to 150 Psig (3 to 10 Barg).

Typical Applications

  • Automation of ball, butterfly and plug valves

  • Automation of louvers and dampers

  • Automation of any quarter-turn mechanism

Key Features

  • Water Ingress Protection to meet both IP66 and IP67M specifications for submergence and severe high pressure water testing

  • NAMUR Topworks allow standardization of accessory hardware and the direct or close coupling of NAMUR designed hardware and accessories

  • Quad Sealed Torque Shaft, the lower torque shaft has two independent seals – the outer seal protects the large bearing area and the primary, inner cup seal from the environment. The upper shaft bearing area features a bi-directional, double lip seal providing twice the level of protection from corrosion and contaminants

  • O-Ring Sealed Cylinders essentially eliminate the possibility of any cylinder leakage throughout the full range of operating and climatic conditions

  • Standard Accessory Mounting Pad is identical on all CBA-300 and CBA Series models allowing the panel mounting of controls

  • Piston Heel and Yoke Pin Bearings manufactured from PTFE/bronze help ensure smooth and consistent torque output and increase total cycle life

  • Totally Enclosed Body provides complete protection of all internal moving parts and minimizes the chance of injury to operating personnel

  • The Scotch-Yoke Mechanism transforms linear movement of the piston into a 90 degree rotating movement, providing optimum start or end torque

  • Center Bar, made of high strength alloy steel, guides the piston throughout its full stroke, preventing metal to metal contact with the cylinder bore

  • Bi-directional Travel Stops are an integral part of the actuator allowing 80° to 100° total travel adjustment. Extended travel stops are optional

  • Critical Bearing Surfaces are permanently lubricated with a baked on dry film lubricant containing unique corrosion inhibitors

  • XylanTM Cylinder Coating, the standard internal coating on all CBA-Series actuators. This fluoropolymer coating is highly resistant to abrasion, thermal shock and provides excellent lubricity and low friction properties. Corrosive properties of salts and other chemicals normally found in the atmosphere or instrument air supply system will not adversely affect its performance. XylanTM bonds to the chemically prepared surface of the steel cylinder so effectively that, unlike other coatings, cracking and flaking are virtually eliminated
